Chapter 216 – Remington M870

Around ten o’clock, I gathered everyone for a meeting.

I called in the staff as well and explained the battle against the Yamaguro, using the whiteboard as I spoke.

This was about sharing information, but it was also education for the boys and girls. I want them to develop situational awareness and the ability to think about the bigger picture. Treating people as disposable is the height of stupidity. If I train them well and keep them long-term, that benefits me in the end.

After the meeting came lunch, and some enormous bread was brought out.

「The oven is finished?」

「Yes. The giant wives built it for us.」

Ah, since it is an oven made for giants, that explains the one-meter-long bread. But seriously, how many servings is a one-meter loaf? Can we even finish it?

That concern turned out to be unnecessary. Two one-meter loaves were completely consumed.

「That must use a ridiculous amount of flour.」

We supply the flour, and it gets enlarged using the power of the bracelet. A thirty-kilogram sack becomes around one hundred fifty kilograms. It is an absurd quantity. If we bought ten sacks… what would even happen? I can imagine it would be insane.

「The giants are very happy. They have never been able to eat bread every day before.」

「If they ate it daily, Koraus would run out of food supplies.」

I do not know how many giants live in Koraus, but the amount of flour needed would be enormous. Baking it all in the oven would be a huge task, and the firewood consumption would be brutal.

「That is why, if anything happens to you, Master, it directly affects their lives. That is the reason the giants treasure you.」

This is not calculation. It is coexistence between me and the giants. We rely on each other.

After lunch, I had Sierra and the boys and girls begin firearms training.

The mansion is still under construction, with giant craftsmen and human workers coming and going. For safety, we went deeper into the forest.

「You lot. Clear this area a bit.」

There was a slope that looked suitable, so I decided to use it as the shooting range.

I had them buy machetes for about five thousand yen each and clear away the thick weeds and branches around us.

「That should be good enough.」

I brought a folding table and Glock ammunition from home.

「This is the Glock 17. It is a handgun. It holds seventeen rounds. If you chamber one, that makes eighteen, but for safety reasons, we will keep it at seventeen.」

I gave a brief explanation, then had them remove the magazine, take out all the rounds, and taught them how to load the bullets properly.

I handed mine to Sierra and had her try, and let the girls do the same.

Once she became somewhat accustomed to it, I told Sierra to load a single round into the magazine, insert it into the pistol, rack the slide to chamber it, then I taught her the proper stance and had her fire.

After repeating this twenty times, I increased it to five rounds and had her repeat that ten times.

「…It feels good…」

Sierra flushed faintly, almost sensually, as if savoring the sensation. Did it strike some sadistic nerve in her?

「Well, each shot costs thirty yen, so I cannot let you do this every time.」

If I let her indulge freely, she would probably fire enough to bankrupt us.

「All right. Next is maintenance.」

After having her remove the magazine and confirm that the chamber was empty, I had her disassemble and clean the Glock.

I collected the Glock I had lent to the boys and put it away in home along with the folding table.

「All right, shall we kill some goblins next?」

When we headed toward the cage holding the goblins, I noticed something odd. There were more of them. Huh? Had we not captured twelve? Now there were about twenty.

「I caught them.」

Mishinie appeared beside me. Could you at least make some noise when you approach?

「When did you do that?」

「On my way back from town. I am a member of Sefuti Bullet too, after all.」

She emphasized “member” for some reason. It is not like she would stop being part of the guild just because she did not capture any.

「Ah, right. Thanks. That really helps.」

I do not know what she is feeling, but I am genuinely grateful. Transporting goblins is a pain.

「Sierra, pay Mishinie the capture reward later. Eight goblins’ worth. Also record the location and number captured.」

We set the capture reward at five copper coins per goblin.

「Yes, understood.」

We will keep proper records and use them for future planning.

After warning everyone to make noise and not approach the cage carelessly, I had Sierra shoot a goblin.

「Hehe. This is nice.」

Please do not awaken some strange thrill and start roaming at night. We cannot have a thrill killer coming out of the guild.

「Check your contractor card.」

I know the money is there, but it is better for her to confirm it with her own eyes.

「It is in there. Um… how much does that come to?」

Even a brilliant former Adventurers’ Guild talent cannot memorize Earth’s numbers so easily.

「It’s twenty goblins, so that makes seventy thousand yen. Why not try buying something? Mishinie, show her how to buy underwear.」

If she is a woman, starting with underwear might help her understand the value of seventy thousand yen. That is just a random thought, though.

「Should I tell her your preferences, Takato?」

「I never told you my preferences in underwear! Just buy what you like!」

There are innocent boys and girls here, so do not say indecent things. It is bad for their education.

「You lot. Help clean up the goblins.」

Honestly, both capturing and disposing of them is exhausting. We might need to hire someone just for cleanup.

After finishing the work, we decided to rest in the garden in front of the mansion.

「Takato-san. With our reward money, can we buy a Glock?」

「You probably can. But you do not necessarily need a gun. Learning the bow would be cheaper.」

For beginners, firearms are a heavy expense.

「We are not that skilled with bows. And for goblins that run away, we think guns would be better.」

So they are not speaking without thinking.

「Let me see your contractor card.」

I took the card from Migis and checked the amount. Eighty thousand and five hundred yen. They really did exterminate quite a few back then. I barely even remember it now.

「If you are going to focus on goblin extermination, buy a shotgun instead. Let’s see. Two of you should get shotguns, and the remaining three can buy Glocks. If you are moving as a group of five.」

If operating alone, it is better to carry both a shotgun and a Glock. But as a team, it is smarter to split into front and rear roles. Ryouna and Ruka were originally rear guards, so they should also be able to conserve ammunition.

Since the five of them would not know which shotgun to choose, I picked for them.

The Remington M870 is affordable, reliable, and extremely durable. At first, they were intimidated by how cheap it was, but a magazine described it as inexpensive yet sturdy. It should last them a long time. The ammunition is also cheap, about thirty yen per shell.

I had Razul and Bobus buy ones priced at forty-five thousand yen each, and the remaining three bought Glock 17s. I gave each of them two hundred rounds, hoping they would live up to expectations.

「Go practice! You are the boys and girls who will carry tomorrow on your shoulders!」

After teaching them how to handle the weapons, I sent them off with that shout of encouragement.
