Chapter 226 – The Struggle for the Throne

Who will be the next ruler of the Rodan Kingdom?

The current king, suffering from illness, doesn’t seem to have much time left. This leaves the kingdom with two potential heirs: Princess Sarina and Prince Adwel. One of them will eventually inherit the throne and rule this land.

… Well, from a rational perspective, Princess Sarina seems like the obvious choice.

After all, Prince Adwel’s behavior and statements are… questionable, to say the least.

On one hand, Princess Sarina is actively involved in efforts to improve the kingdom through concrete initiatives like farming. On the other hand, Prince Adwel appears to have no real plan. Even the knights around him seemed uneasy, clearly unsure of his competence.

By birthright, as the eldest son, Prince Adwel would typically be first in line for the throne. But will things really go that smoothly?

The tense standoff between Prince Adwel and Princess Sarina lasted for about ten minutes before Prince Adwel finally stormed off.

Yet, his demand that we leave the kingdom remained firm, leaving us in a difficult position.

「You needn’t listen to my aniue’s nonsense.」

Princess Sarina reassured us.

While her words were comforting, it was obvious that Prince Adwel had supporters. We would no doubt face opposition from those loyal to his faction.

For now, we moved from the tense scene to a reception room inside the castle—the same one where we’d first met the princess—to continue discussing the farming facility plan.

「The management may be difficult, but this method allows for farming unaffected by the external environment.」

「Indoor cultivation of crops… That’s an idea I hadn’t considered.」

Princess Sarina remarked, clearly intrigued by the proposal.

「If you’re concerned about the availability of materials and craftsmen, we can provide everything necessary.」

「Thank you very much.」

With full backing from the Rymal Company, farming in the Rodan Kingdom was becoming a reality.

However, this also made Prince Adwel our main obstacle.

Based on what had just happened, it seemed the prince’s opposition to the project was rooted in fear that a successful farming program would shift popular support to Princess Sarina. The prince probably feared that the citizens of Rodan would rally behind her, leaving him with little influence.

Judging by the knights’ reactions, it was clear that Prince Adwel hadn’t implemented any meaningful policies for the kingdom’s benefit. His standing among the people seemed weak at best.

In truth, Prince Adwel’s continued resistance didn’t make much sense. Rather than trying to sabotage his sister, aligning himself with her farming plans would likely earn him more public favor. But judging from his arrogant demeanor, it seemed unlikely that Prince Adwel was the type to listen to such advice—or perhaps he lacked any competent advisors in the first place.

「Ah, this is really exciting, isn’t it?」

「Indeed, it’s unprecedented in Rodan’s long history to grow crops within the kingdom’s borders. If this succeeds, the people will be overjoyed.」

「Yes, let’s give it our all.」

Even the knights, including Kevin-san, were starting to get excited about the possibility of farming in their country. Seeing their enthusiasm motivated me further. I was determined to make this project a success.

「Now then, about the location for the facility—hm?」

Just as one of the knights was about to lead us to a potential site, his gaze shifted to the window. Something outside had caught his attention.

「What is it?」

「I… I think I saw some of the knights who should be patrolling the perimeter out there.」

「What?」

The eldest knight among us approached the window to confirm what was happening.

「Hmm? You’re right… What could be going on?」

Something unusual was clearly happening outside.
