The former dragon king, Bardin-san, driven by cannibalistic urges, had been roaring repeatedly. To calm him, Simone and the other dragonkin, along with Hanon the alraune, brought vegetables infused with the effects of holy water to him. However, they had yet to return.
「D-Do you think they’re okay…?」
「There’s no way we can go out there ourselves…」
「We have no choice but to trust and wait.」
「I know, but it’s so frustrating.」
Martina, Kiara, Charlotte, Ailia, and I waited anxiously from a distance, unable to intervene due to the risk of provoking Bardin-san. Despite hearing his roars several times, we knew rushing in could jeopardize the plan. All we could do was hope for their success.
After what felt like an eternity—
「Everyone!」
「We’re back!」
「Simone! And Hanon too!」
Simone and Hanon finally returned.
Thankfully, neither of them appeared injured.
「W-What happened?」
I asked, and the others fell silent, awaiting an answer.
Simone broke into a wide grin and raised a victory sign.
「It was a complete success!」
「R-Really!?」
「Yes! Bardin-san regained his clarity of thought and has returned to his human form. He’s now in the dragonkin village and has requested to meet with the hero of the day—Bale!」
「Me?」
「Well, you were the one who created the vegetables that stopped his urges. It’s no surprise he wants to thank you, right? You’ll probably get some high praise.」
「Quite likely. To think you’d be recognized by someone of dragon king caliber, even if he’s a former one… Truly impressive, Bale-san.」
Kiara’s observation made Charlotte nod solemnly in agreement. Everyone else seemed to share the sentiment, though I wasn’t so sure. It wasn’t something I could judge until I met Bardin-san in person.
「He didn’t seem angry or anything, so it’s probably just gratitude, like Kiara and Charlotte said.」
「That’d be great if that’s all it is.」
Either way, I’d have to hear it from Bardin-san himself to know for certain.
