Following the string as a guide, we hammered the support posts securely into the ground. With that, the foundation was mostly complete.
「Next, we’ll line up the wire mesh.」
This time, we prepared mesh with openings no larger than 10 centimeters. If they were any larger, boar piglets could squeeze through.
If a piglet gets in, its mother would likely attempt to destroy the fence.
That’s why we chose a mesh size that would prevent piglets from entering.
For smaller animals, attaching a finer net to the inside of the fence should solve the issue, but for now, since we’re not even sure what kind of animals are intruding, just having the fence up should suffice.
We positioned the lattice-like wire mesh so that the vertical lines faced outward.
If the horizontal wires faced outward, animals might grab onto them with their mouths and pull the fence apart.
「Naoki, is this spot okay?」
「Yeah, that’s perfect. Thanks for helping, Dori.」
The wire mesh was larger than expected, so handling it with just Haruki and me made it a bit unsteady.
When we asked Dori to help with her impressive strength, the mesh stayed firmly in place.
「Now we just need binding wire and the hook tool… Wait, how do you even use this thing?」
I had prepared the tools after watching some videos, but I hadn’t looked up how to use the hook-like tool called a hacker.
We set the wire mesh down, and I searched for instructions on my phone.

Next to me, Haruki was busy covering Dori’s eyes. The comments were flowing in, but they moved too fast for me to follow.
I accidentally pressed an unfamiliar button on the screen, but it didn’t seem to cause any issues.
「There are direct messages from Ordinary Person and Doctor. What should I do about them?」
「Ah, just leave those two alone. You can go ahead and ban them.」
Apology messages and friend request approval buttons had appeared, but I decided to ignore them and focus on the task at hand.
Following Ordinary Person’s instructions, I hooked the binding wire and the loop onto the claw of the hacker tool and twisted it. It was surprisingly easy to secure, and the result was sturdier than I expected. Even with a firm pull, the mesh didn’t budge.
「Dori, can you try pulling on this?」
I asked Dori to test it out. Despite her strength, the support posts held the mesh firmly in place, with only minimal movement. It seemed unlikely to come loose.
Still, Dori’s strength was truly remarkable.
After ensuring that there were no gaps between the wire mesh and the ground, we were nearly done.
「Hey, how are we supposed to get inside now?」
Even I wasn’t foolish enough to leave the entire area completely fenced off, turning it into a giant cage.
To create a gate, I cut the wire mesh to the right size.
Dori’s expression when I started cutting the wire was a mix of disbelief and disapproval. Her face practically screamed, ‘Why are you ruining something we worked so hard to install?’
I attached a spiral coil to the wire mesh to serve as a hinge for the gate and installed a latch clip to keep it securely closed.
By hooking the mesh into the clip, we ensured that only us humans could enter the potato field.
Despite some detours, we managed to finish the job before sunset.
「Alright, let’s clean up and head home!」
「I’ll stop by the store to get ingredients for the stew.」
「Chichuu!」
Dori seemed genuinely thrilled at the idea of having cream stew tonight.
It felt a bit odd to eat stew in this lingering summer heat, but if Dori wanted it, there was no helping it.
Hand in hand, Dori and I headed back home—only to find Ordinary Person and Doctor waiting in front of the house.
