「Hah…」
I let out a quiet breath.
Flemia stared, wide-eyed.
「Incredible… You really defeated Buros-sama…」
Her gaze flickered between me and Buros’ corpse.
「B-but…」
Just then, the villager uncle spoke up, voice trembling.
「If the demons in the fortress find out Buros was killed in Hiko Village… they’ll destroy us.」
His fear wasn’t for Buros’ death—but for the retaliation that would follow.
Understandable.
「No need to worry.」
I cut in.
「I’m heading to the fortress now. Once I slaughter every last demon, your village will be safe.」
「Y-you said that earlier too… About killing them all… You’re serious?」
「Dead serious.」
「You plan to fight them alone!? That’s impossible! There are hordes of them!」
「Doesn’t matter. Numbers mean nothing. They’ll all die the same.」
My tone left no room for debate.
The villager uncle hesitated, then asked:
「…Why go this far?」
「No reason worth sharing.」
No point explaining I’m after Teleportation Magic.
「I’ll take my leave now. The fortress should be… this way.」
Recalling game knowledge, I turned to leave—
—when Flemia suddenly spoke.
「Ano…! I’m coming too!」
I stopped.
「Let me fight with you!」
Her determination was misplaced.
She had no combat experience.
And I didn’t need help.
「Stay. You’d just be dead weight.」
I said it bluntly.
Flemia clenched her fists.
「But… this is my fault. You only fought the demons because you protected me—」
「Wrong.」
I shut her down.
「I came to exterminate them for my own reasons. It has nothing to do with you.」
True, saving Flemia—the intended sacrifice—played a part in killing Buros.
But with or without her, I’d have slaughtered them all regardless.
So in essence, she didn’t factor in.
「That’s why you don’t need to come. Or fight. I’ll handle everything.」
My glare carried unspoken pressure: Don’t follow me. You’ll just get in the way.
Flemia flinched under the weight of it.
Finally, she lowered her head.
「…Understood. Then… please, be careful.」
「Yeah.」
With that curt reply, I set off toward the fortress—alone.
