Chapter 226 – Collapse

「Have you realized the foolishness of challenging me?」

I said with a fearless smile.

Gordias grit his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead.

「Damn it……!! If it’s come to this……!」

He pulled something from his item bag.

It looked like a magic tool, one of those small wand-like devices known as a wand.

「It only has a few charges left, so I didn’t want to use it… but now’s not the time to be picky. Die, Henryyy!!」

Gordias thrust the wand toward me and poured magic into it.

In the next moment, energy surged at the wand’s tip.

A magic projectile was launched straight at me.

「……」

It was blazingly fast.

I didn’t have time to dodge.

But there was no need.

I held my hand out in front of me,

And caught the incoming magic shot perfectly in my palm.

「What!?」

Gordias was stunned.

With psychokinesis, I stopped the magic bullet in my hand.

Then―――――

「Die」

I muttered, and hurled the spell back at Gordias.

It struck the ground right at his feet.

This time, I used a new power I had learned,

Psychokinesis-enhanced spell amplification.

The amplified blast caused a massive explosion.

「GAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!」

Screams rang out.

The shockwave shattered the ground beneath us, and the cliff began to collapse.

The ground at my feet vanished.

I was swept by a sensation of weightlessness.

Then dropped with gravity into the gorge below, eventually landing.

I stood beside the river flowing at the bottom of the valley.

「Whoops. I didn’t mean to destroy the road.」

I muttered, looking up at the collapsed cliff.

With the road gone, merchant wagons wouldn’t be able to pass.

I felt a bit sorry for the traders who used this route.

I walked toward Gordias.

He lay by the riverbank, gravely injured.

Several other mercenaries caught in the blast were also sprawled nearby.

「He… reflected the Zelno Wand…?」

He must have meant the magic tool from before.

「You monster…」

Gordias muttered, trembling in pain.

「Who hired you?」

I asked.

Gordias was silent.

I stomped on his arm.

「GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!?」

「I’ll ask again. Who hired you?」

「I-It was Count Belga……」

Count Belga.

The same noble who plotted with the old knight Valdin to have me killed.

Having gotten what I needed, I drew my sword and plunged it into Gordias’s chest.

「Guh……」

The light faded from his eyes.

「Now then……」

I looked around.

「Before I crush Count Belga… I’ll finish off the surviving mercenaries. Not a single one leaves alive.」

Many had died in the explosion.

But some had survived.

I hunted down every last one.

Not a single mercenary escaped.
