We were allowed to borrow land just outside Lasagna Village.
By the way, this was still under the domain of Margrave Koraus. Even outside the village, the land was treated as part of it.
We had the Sefuti Home, but we needed a place to connect with people. We rented this spot to show that we lived here.
Even with the Sefuti Home, leaving the area empty felt wrong, so we asked Gorg and the others to build a hut. For giants, it was small, but for us it was plenty. We decided to run a rental service for giants.
「These axes are good.」
「The tools here are nice too. With these we can handle fine work.」
We hung axes, hatchets, saws, chisels and hammers on the wall and set the price at one copper coin per day, which was about a thousand yen.
I had no idea if a thousand yen a day was cheap or expensive, but the giants were pleased and many came to borrow them. Some even asked to buy them, but when I said they had magic on them, they gave up.
Magic in this world seemed convincing enough. I should learn more about what kinds existed. I did not want to end up dead because something activated without warning.
「Actually, it is dangerous having people come here.」
It would not be funny if someone stepped out of the Sefuti Home and got crushed. We should let Gorg handle the rentals. The giants would not want to walk out here every time either. Before things disappeared, we could have Ladarion touch it.
We had gotten along with Romy-san too, so if we inform her, no one will mind Ladarion touching anything.
After talking with Gorg, he agreed to take over the rental service, and we decided that the hut would only be used when needed.
That said, I still had to hunt goblins or I would not earn anything. I had not gone hunting these last few days, so my balance only dropped. Even money from this world was not enough to buy a single bullet.
Now that she knew the taste of food from my world, Ladarion could no longer handle meals from this one. While I was distracted with the hut, she kept hunting goblins. We only met inside the Sefuti Home.
I walked through the village toward the human quarter, where a gate and a guard stood.
「Hello. I’m Takato. I started living behind the village a few days ago. Can I go inside?」
「Ah, you’re the one hunting goblins. The village chief told me about you. Go right in.」
「Thank you.」
I bowed lightly and entered the village, or rather climbed the slope up into it.
「More people live here than I expected.」
I had only gone to the giant side, and because it was on higher ground, I had not seen the human quarter. There were more than thirty houses. It felt more like a small town than a village.
「They even have windmills.」
The otherworld seemed more developed than I had imagined.
The villagers already knew I had settled here and greeted me as I walked by. They also pointed me toward the village chief’s house.
The chief’s house was built of stone and had two floors. It was surrounded by a one-meter stone wall, and chickens with brown and black feathers wandered freely inside.
「Excuse me. Is the village chief here?」
There was no bell, so I called out from the entrance. A young man came to the door.
「Ah, Takato-sama. I’m sorry. My father is away in town and won’t be back until later. Did you need something?」
His father? So, this guy was the son? Not the grandson?
「No, I just wanted to let him know I’m heading out to hunt goblins again. If I have to clear a wide area, I might be gone for two or three days.」
「I see. We’re truly troubled by goblins, so your help means a lot. We can’t ask adventurers to handle it. The reward is too low, so no one accepts the job.」
「That seems to be the case. For me it’s convenient, since no one takes a share of the rewards.」
「But can you really make money from hunting goblins? They’re useless for anything.」
「It’s not much profit, but I can buy good supplies from the boss. This outfit too. You can’t find it even in large cities. Though thanks to the Great Mage, I can’t resell anything.」
I made sure to say that every time. It would be trouble if anyone demanded free gear.
「If anyone wants to become a goblin exterminator, please let me know. There’s a contract system, so they could earn pocket money.」
「I’ll mention it, but I doubt anyone will do it. Hunting goblins is too much trouble.」
Gorg had said the same. It was more profitable to hunt boar or deer than goblins.
「Well, goblin exterminators are a job no one wants. The boss complains about it too.」
「Haha. The guild chief says the same. No one accepts the request. That’s why having someone like you is a great help.」
「I’ll do what I can and clear out as many as possible.」
I excused myself and returned to the Sefuti Home after entering the forest.
It was a hassle, but inside the village I wore the machete equipment, and for goblin extermination I swapped into my real gear. At least until it caused problems.
I switched to the newly bought FN-SCAR-L with suppressor and scope, and attached the belt with the Glock to the chest rig.
Then I put on the ghillie suit and pulled the hat with the net over my face.
「If an adventurer saw me, they’d probably kill me on sight.」
I had to be careful to avoid that.
Alright. After taking a breath and checking the surroundings, I stepped outside.
