By the time I finished explaining everything to the three of them, the other two came back, out of breath.
When they showed me their cards, Mizeng-san had one hundred twenty-six thousand yen. Zora-san had one hundred twelve thousand yen. What was with this team? They were like the Expendables.
「It feels like we might wipe out every goblin in the area before the day is over」
The five of them had already taken down two hundred. It was not even three in the afternoon.
I held back the frustration and taught the two of them how to use their cards.
「Good. This is really good」
「It is true」
Mizeng-san was an attacker, so I understood his reaction, but even Zora-san, a mage, felt the difference. Just how terrible were their old shoes. I had no interest in checking shoes worn by guys.
「Takato. Do you have any good tea? I prefer tea over alcohol」
「Tea? What did you think of the coffee?」
「It was not really to my taste. It was easier to drink with sugar and milk though」
So, he was a sweet tooth, like the guildmaster.
I had him try different bottled teas from the convenience store. It seemed he preferred lemon tea.
「This is good」
We tried lemon teas from other brands, but he liked Gogo no Koucha the most. Afternoon Tea was fearsome enough to charm someone from another world.
「Takato. Do you have spears too?」
「I think there should be, but is your current one not enough?」
「It is not bad. I just wondered what kinds you had」
「Then imagine a spear. It should show up」
I had never checked, but since swords existed, spears should too. It looked like nothing suited him though, and he let out a deep sigh.
「Then how about this? It is useful as a spare」
I took out the multifunction foldable shovel that hung on my backpack and assembled it.
「A digging board?」
It seemed they called shovels digging boards here.
「Well, it does dig holes, but it can be used as a weapon too」
The handle was about a meter long, so it worked as a spear or an axe. With Mizeng-san’s strength, it would be a solid weapon.
When I swung it around, Mizeng-san took it from me with ease and began testing it out with perfect form.
「I want a little more length, but this would work in tight spaces. Is it expensive?」
「You can buy one after taking down two goblins」
「Then it might be worth having one. It can dig holes too」
So, he bought it. He seemed to like it and immediately started studying how to use it.
「Takato. Can I buy the weapon you use too?」
Just when I thought we were done, Zora-san called out to me.
「My weapon? This one?」
Today I only had my Glock and machete, since Rondario-san and the others were here. I did not expect to fight. I thought he meant the machete, but it was the Glock.
「You’re a mage, right, Zora-san?」
A gun and a mage. What kind of light novel is this?
「I do fight with magic, but my magic power has limits. I used too much today and I am out. All I have left is my staff. Compared to the other four, my physical strength is low. My skill with a sword is probably below average」
Below average probably still meant he was stronger than me.
Instead of explaining everything, I thought he would understand faster by trying it. I gave him a simple explanation of the Glock 17’s structure, loaded a single round into the magazine, and let him shoot.
「Hmm. Stronger than a magic arrow」
So, a magic arrow was weaker than a nine-millimeter round. That meant it was roughly like a normal arrow.
「Let me try again」
I took the Glock back, removed the magazine, loaded one round, inserted it, and racked the slide. Zora-san watched every movement intently.
「Hmm. I understand most of it」
Zora-san understood the Glock after firing two rounds. I must have been an idiot since I jammed a Beretta 92 after only a few shots and threw it away. Maybe it was presumptuous to feel self-loathing in front of someone this talented.
I taught him how to load the rounds and let him fire the whole magazine.
「Five rounds cost about one copper coin. Sometimes the rounds jam and the gun won’t work well without maintenance. Magic is probably more efficient for you」
「That is the same for swords and magic. Each has strengths and weaknesses. It depends on the situation. What matters is knowing the weapon and how to use it. From what I see, Takato, you understand both strengths and weaknesses and adapt well」
R-really? No one had ever said that to me before.
「Can I buy this?」
「Ah, yes. You can. Actually, I can give you that one. I have used it for a long time and planned to buy a new one. You will need to buy your own ammo though」
I had fired over a thousand rounds with that Glock. I did not mind giving it away. I also wanted to see where the reward money would go when he killed goblins with it.
「Are you sure?」
「Don’t worry about it」
I handed him the two magazines I had on my belt.
「Then I will accept it. I will repay this debt later」
「If you kill goblins, that will be more than enough」
The more he killed, the more I earned. My wallet would thank me.
「Good. Then I will kill many」
While I taught him how to buy guns and ammo, the other three returned, out of breath.
「You did not need to push yourselves that hard」
There were no goblins left within two kilometers.
At this rate they might start arguing about shares, so I had them stop hunting for the day and told them to create rules for how the team would divide rewards.
