Chapter 85 – Managing Is Hard

We managed to exterminate twenty-eight goblins before reaching Lasagna Village.

Even so, we got a little too into it and it was already dark by the time we arrived. I was exhausted.

「Let’s save your introduction to the village for tomorrow.」

I left the goblin extermination to Kainzel-san, but pulling the bodies out of the grass was a struggle. With all the food available, some of them had reached around forty kilos.

I wanted to leave them where they were, but letting them rot in the grass would be a problem. I dragged them onto the road so the villagers could deal with them.

We walked through the village and headed home, where I invited Kainzel-san inside.

Since there was no electricity, I used a flashlight and switched on the LED lantern I had left there.

「Please use this place for tonight. I’ve left water and food here, so help yourself.」

I had left it untouched for a few days, so I refreshed everything to reset the fifteen-day timer and taught him how to open the canned food.

「There’s no place to relieve yourself, so it’s troublesome, but please go outside. Rest a bit while I prepare dinner.」

I had already explained the Sefuti Home, so I returned there.

「Ladarion, go bathe first.」

I told her that while she was removing her gear, then removed my own.

I kept only the belt equipment on and took a blanket, towel and camp mat from the supply shelf before heading outside.

I spread the camp mat on the unused bed, laid the blanket down and used the towel as a pillow.

「Anything I put out disappears in fifteen days, so use it freely.」

After that, I went back to the Sefuti Home and started making dinner.

Since we had worked up a sweat today, I chose some Jiro-style ramen. Three plates of gyoza and a large fried rice should satisfy Ladarion. If not, he would just eat more dessert.

「For Kainzel-san, a light soy-sauce ramen should be fine.」

I placed the soy-sauce ramen, a fork, spoon, and two apples on a tray and went outside.

「Here is dinner. Please eat this for today. Tomorrow I’ll bring whatever you prefer.」

I explained the soy-sauce ramen, let him drink the broth and, since he seemed fine, had him eat it.

「This is delicious!」

He finished the ramen in no time at all and drank the water I poured with a satisfied look.

「I don’t think any monsters will attack, but I’ll leave this here just in case. The safety is here.」

I swapped the empty Glock 17 I had given him with the one I had been carrying. I had already taught him how to use it, so he should be able to handle it.

「You’ve done so much for me.」

「Think nothing of it. Kainzel-san will be teaching me plenty, after all. Well then, see you tomorrow.」

With that, I headed back to the Sefuti Home. Going back and forth was exhausting.

Ladarion was already eating, so I joined her and had my extra-meat ramen. After resting for about an hour, I took a shower.

「Ladarion, I’m taking tomorrow and the day after off, but I’m going to have Kainzel-san teach me swordsmanship. You can do as you like.」

「I’ll take lessons from him too」

「…I see. Then the two of us will learn together.」

If Ladarion said that, I had no reason to object. After restocking supplies, I hit the sandbag lightly and went to sleep.

In the morning, I woke earlier than usual.

…Why is it that on days off I always wake up early…?

Well, I went to bed around ten and woke up at five, so I guess that’s plenty of sleep.

Careful not to wake Ladarion, I washed my face and headed to the entrance.

I drank a canned coffee, took a short break, and continued with my 5S routine.

「…If Kainzel-san is going to use a gun too, that means more equipment to manage…」

I mainly used the P90, switching to the Benelli M4, the MINIMI, the H-Sniper, or the MP9 depending on the situation. Even if I hadn’t been using the Glock much lately, going without a sidearm made me uneasy.

Even alone, I had to manage all these guns, and Ladarion had her own as well.

Ladarion had grown fond of the SCAR-L recently and used it as her main weapon, and she handled the H-Sniper whenever she had time so she could get used to it.

The way we matched with our weapons was different. There was no way to standardize anything. It didn’t seem likely we would ever end up using the same ones.

And now Kainzel-san was joining us, so the amount of management wouldn’t go down.

「I really want someone who can take care of all this maintenance.」

Even if they do not join the fight, just having someone handle the management helps a lot. I am the one buying everything though.

Well, only five people can enter the Sefuti Home. I cannot just let anyone in though.

「Ah, if we are clearing out the goblins hiding in the fields, I need a rifle with longer range」

I have an H Sniper, but it is not that serious. It is meant for targets within a hundred meters, so a 5.56 mm assault rifle should be enough. According to the catalog specs, it can reach four to five hundred meters.

「Modern assault rifles cost around two hundred thousand yen in the end」

With a suppressor and optics added, the price easily goes over three hundred thousand. I do not get why the scope is more expensive than the gun itself.

「Ah, I should buy a wooden sword」

There is no way I can use a real blade. With Kainzel-san’s skill, he can choose to cut or not cut as he likes, but I am a complete amateur. I would panic just from the other person holding a sharp weapon.

I buy around ten wooden swords of different lengths.

Ladarion wakes up and after we finish breakfast, I take a mixed sandwich and orange juice from Ko○da Coffee Shop and step outside.

「Good morning. Did you sleep well?」

Kainzel-san is already up and tinkering with the Glock.

「Yeah. I slept peacefully for the first time in a while」

On the streets, he would probably sleep peacefully for a different reason.

「Here is breakfast. If it is not enough, I will bring more」

「This is enough. Anything was better than hard bread」

Life on the streets is rough. I should make sure we never end up like that. Watching Kainzel-san savor the mixed sandwich strengthened that resolve.
