「It’s harder to hit than I thought」
Even Kainzel-san struggled at first. He tensed up and fired in quick succession before finally landing a shot.
「When you pull the trigger the sights tend to shift. Just take it easy and treat it like practice」
Taking down a single goblin earned more than enough to cover the cost of the ammunition. And I was picking off the ones the two of them missed, so we were still coming out ahead. Even if you used an entire magazine on one goblin, you would not be losing money.
「Teacher! Another goblin is coming!」
Again? Does processed meat smell that strong? I would think the smell of gunpowder would overpower it.
I left the river to the two of them and turned toward the field, raising the VHS-2.
The space between the field and the embankment was overgrown with weeds, completely neglected. For goblins, it was perfect cover. If you could not detect heat or sense presence, you would have a hard time finding them.
「Marg. Take the left. Aim for their legs」
「Got it!」
There were too many for me to handle alone, so I left half of them to Marg.
Once they entered the weed zone, I shot them down one after another, but they really did release a smell when they gathered. They kept swarming without giving us a break.
「Kainzel-san! Sorry, but help Marg!」
He was flinging mud bullets with practiced movements, but more goblins were coming than he could handle. Marg spat out, 「Damn! Damn!」. His habit came from me. Sorry.
I switched from the H-Sniper to the Scorpion and sprayed bullets into the grass.
There were so many that I was switching magazines nonstop. I emptied everything I had in no time.
「Hold on for a moment」
I rushed back to the Sefuti Home and grabbed the MINIMI.
The moment Kainzel-san took hold of the MINIMI, he swung it like it was his partner in battle and cut the goblins down.
I brought the second MINIMI and set it on the ground, then used the VHS-2 to take care of the ones slipping through.
After about thirty minutes things finally settled, and goblins stopped coming from the field side.
「Marg, take a short break. Kainzel-san, check for any stragglers. Ladarion, how’s your ammo?」
「It is almost gone」
We had been firing for forty minutes without pause. It was no surprise that all fifty magazines had run dry.
「I’ll change gear. Use mine」
I placed the two remaining magazines into the apport pouch on Ladarion’s gear.
I returned to the Sefuti Home, stuffed P90 magazines into my work bag, grabbed two P90s and Ladarion’s Benelli M4 set, then stepped back outside.
「Switch out. Gear up」
「Understood」
I raised the P90 and poured bullets into the goblins swimming through the river.
I had twenty magazines, so it was enough to hold until Ladarion finished preparing.
After I burned through ten magazines, Ladarion was ready. He traced his bracelet and returned to his original size.
「Leave it to me」
We switched, and when I turned toward the field, the second wave had arrived. This was a bad pattern.
「Kainzel-san, fall back!」
I called back the rampaging Kainzel-san and had him use the KSG.
Covering each other, we shot down goblins one after another, but the more we killed, the more they swarmed. The grass was now a pile of goblin corpses. We had definitely taken down five hundred.
I emptied the P90 ammo and switched to the Glock.
「Takato, this is getting bad」
「Ladarion! We’re moving downstream! Clear a path!」
We could not head toward the bridge. Too many people used it. We would lure them downstream and escape when the chance came.
「Marg! Follow Ladarion!」
「Takato, what about the guns?」
「Hold on a little longer!」
I grabbed the MINIMI and the H-Sniper, stored them in the Sefuti Home, and filled my work bag with Glock magazines.
「Hold out just a bit more」
I gathered the dropped magazines and stored them as well. With how expensive magazines were, throwing them away was never an option.
I packed the MP9, the APC9, and their magazines into a shoulder bag, then rushed back outside to follow after Ladarion and the others.
「Takato, are you leaving the goblins like that?」
「Once we get some distance, I’ll use bait to lure them」
Even though we were a hundred meters from the bridge, letting them flee toward the side with foot traffic would make us the villains. We still planned to make our way in the Koraus Frontier Marquisate, so we had to avoid anything that would put us at a disadvantage.
Once we were about a hundred meters away, I bought processed meat and scattered it. The goblins caught the scent and turned toward us.
「We’re pulling back!」
Since they were drawn in, there was no need to force a fight. We could get farther away and handle it then.
After gaining more distance, I scattered more processed meat and lured them again. When the goblins were completely pulled toward it, I sent Ladarion toward the mountain.
「Kainzel-san, follow Ladarion and the others. I’ll take care of this!」
「Are you trying to die!?」
「I’m not dying. I’m just doing a plan only I can use. Get far away」
I handed him the shoulder bag and the APC9, then returned to the Sefuti Home.
I bought ten kilos of processed meat and dumped it outside through the trash chute.
「Gather up!」
Next, I bought a box of grenades.
I really want to use something like a major gas explosion strategy but I don’t want wildfire to break out. If we are going to do it, it would be on the day before it rains.
When I looked out the window, goblins were gathering and gathering. Seriously, where were all of you hiding?
And there were so many that it made me doubt whether one exterminator thrown into this mess could do anything at all. You would need to drop in tens of thousands to wipe goblins off the face of the world.
「So, I’m just a drop of water on a hot stone」
Even so, if I did not put out the fire in front of me, I would be the one burned alive. Once I confirmed they had gathered, I pulled a grenade from the box, pulled the pin and sent it down the chute. It exploded outside and blew the goblins away.
「If water cannot put you out, then I’ll blast you away with fire!」
I grabbed the next grenade, pulled the pin and sent it down the chute.
