The villagers helped carry the defeated Maanu back.
「It’s pretty big.」
I thought it would be about the size of a large dog, but it was close to two meters tall, and its claws and fangs were unmistakably those of a carnivore. If I had run into one at the beginning, it definitely would have eaten me.
「It is. Judging from this size, it must have lived for over twenty years.」
「Goblins live that long? I thought they only lasted around three years at best.」
The tiny bit of information from that useless goddess said they reach adulthood in half a year. A creature like that living long didn’t seem possible.
「I don’t know the details, but once they grow to about a person’s waist, that’s ten years. When they reach a person’s height, that’s twenty.」
So that’s why twenty years. Amazing it survived without being hunted by adventurers. Goblins are seriously a nuisance.
「With this size, there might even be a magic stone.」
So I cut it open with a machete, and sure enough, a blue magic stone about the size of a large candy ball came out from near the heart.
「Ogu stones were red, but goblin stones are blue.」
Does that mean something?
「You’ve defeated an ogu before?」
「Before I came to Lasagna Village. Well, Ladarion is the one who actually took it down.」
Come to think of it, where did I put that ogu stone? It had no use, so I left it somewhere and never saw it again.
「What do magic stones even do?」
I feel like someone might have told me once, but I wasn’t interested, so I forgot.
「They are used as magical power by magic users. Human magic isn’t very strong, so magic stones are used to make up for it. An ogu stone is said to be equal to the magic power of twenty first-rate magic users.」
I wasn’t sure if that was a lot, but human magic really wasn’t strong. I wonder if Zora used magic stones too.
「Red stones are said to have a heat attribute, and blue stones a life attribute. If it’s a blue stone, giving it to Miriel might be a good idea.」
Hmm. So healing magic uses the life attribute. Well, I can’t use it anyway, so if Miriel can, I’ll let her carry it.
I wiped the blood from the blue magic stone and tossed it into my backpack.
「Village Chief-san, does this complete the request?」
The request was to hunt the pair. There shouldn’t be anything to complain about.
「Y-yes, it’s complete. I never imagined you would finish it this easily.」
「It just suited us well. If it had been an ogu hunt, I would have refused.」
If Ladarion returned to her original size, it would probably be easy, but I didn’t want to waste time on something like that. It would only waste bullets.
I received the completion tag from the village chief. If I turned this in at the guild branch, I’d get the reward.
「Village Chief, if possible, could you sell us some potatoes? I tried them in the town of Rihar and got hooked. I don’t mind paying whatever price you ask.」
I didn’t care if I got overcharged a little. They were worth it.
「They would be last year’s harvest, since it’s not the season, but if that’s acceptable…」
「That’s fine. Please let me buy them.」
He guided us to the underground storage, and I bought about a silver coin’s worth. It looked like roughly forty kilos. Pretty cheap. Was that alright?
「The harvest is in autumn?」
「Yes. Though this year might not be very good because of the heavy rain.」
「If I’m free, I’ll come buy more. Please sell them to me again.」
「Of course. If you will buy them, anytime is fine.」
We exchanged thanks, carried the potatoes to the Sefuti Home, and then left the village.
「We only managed to get rid of two, but we made a good purchase.」
I left the drive back to Kainzel-san.
「Heh. The goblin hunt was just a bonus.」
「A day like this is fine once in a while. How about a potato feast tonight with some drinks? Potatoes and beer go really well together.」
Steamed potatoes with shiokara. And ice-cold beer. It felt like heaven itself was piercing straight through my skull with pure flavor.
「I’m looking forward to it.」
Aside from shiokara, there was mayonnaise, cheese, pizza sauce, and grilled bacon. All of it worked great with potatoes. I was already drooling just thinking about it.
While those thoughts were running through my head, we arrived at the town of Rihar. It was still four in the afternoon, so there were plenty of people around, though not nearly as crowded as midday. We reached the guild branch without any trouble.
Inside the guild branch, I handed the completion tag to the request counter.
「A request from the village of Mubando. Thank you for your work. The reward is three silver coins. Please check them.」
I checked the three silver coins placed on the counter and accepted them.
「Kainzel-san, your share.」
I handed him one silver coin.
Kainzel-san was the only one who actually worked today, but he wouldn’t accept the entire reward even if I tried to give it to him. He was that kind of sincere person.
「Ah. Then let’s hea──」
Just as Kainzel-san began to speak, a young adventurer burst into the guild branch.
「──A Mokudan showed up in Plando Village!」
Mokudan? What, did some pink beast from the future appear to investigate its origins?
「A boar-shaped humanoid. It’s a monster that rarely appears around here. Must have drifted in.」
That was an okujan. The names in this world were really mixed up.
「Is it a dangerous monster?」
「One alone isn’t too dangerous. But Mokudan move in groups. And they use human women as brood hosts to increase their numbers. If there were a hundred of them, it would be urgent enough to call everyone in.」
A filthy pig. So that part followed the usual pattern. Was the classic ‘kill me if you must’ scene about to start?
