After about an hour passed, the goblins in the cave began to die.
Their presence gradually grew weaker, fading away like a candle burning down until the goblins’ presence vanished entirely. Namu Amida Butsu. Next time, don’t be reborn as a life slapped together at random by some useless goddess.
「By the way, what sect does Namu Amida Butsu belong to again?」
A modern, non-religious Japanese guy. There’s no way I’d know what sect my family is. I don’t even really know what a sect is. I couldn’t properly explain the difference between Kukai and the Buddha if you asked me. I did read Saint☆Onii-san, though.
By noon, more than fifty had ascended to heaven. Amen.
「Bisha. I’m going to prepare lunch, so watch this place for me」
I left things to Bisha, who had gone to check on the village and then stood by so as not to interfere with Mishinie, and returned to Home.
「Oh, Ladarion. How’s it going on your end?」
It looked like she had returned just a few seconds ago, as Ladarion was standing at the entrance.
「Smooth. I think I’ve cleared about two hundred」
「I see. Good to hear things are going well」
Somehow, two hundred no longer feels like a huge number to me. That’s a dangerous sign. If I don’t stay sharp, I’ll get seriously hurt one of these days. Never forget the basics.
「Over here, Mishinie showed up and went full solo carry. We’re probably close to three hundred now」
While buying lunch on the tablet, we exchanged updates, then carried the meals to our respective locations.
「She’s one energetic drunk」
She’s been moving nonstop for almost three hours and is close to hitting three hundred kills. What kind of stamina monster is she?
I blew the whistle to signal that it was lunchtime. If she doesn’t stop berserker mode soon, she’s going to slip straight into the path of carnage.
After a while, Mishinie came back, drenched in sweat. How absorbed did she get, seriously…?
「Here. Drink some water」
I handed her a plastic bottle, and after she drained it, I passed her a towel.
「Bisha. Sorry, but take the bathtub, water heater, and shower out of the trailer」
I’d packed a foldable bathtub, a portable water heater, and a portable shower with the intention of using them at the lake.
「What about the water?」
「I prepared for this, just in case」
I laughed softly and pulled a foldable handcart from Home.
Loaded on it were four eighteen-liter jerry cans. Four won’t be enough, but I’ve got six more kept full and ready.
We filled the foldable bathtub with water and dropped in the heater. I started the generator and plugged it in.
「Mishinie. Once the water’s hot, take a bath. Put your underwear in that basket. I’ll wash it」
When the water was ready, we moved it behind the tent. It’s not that I don’t want to see the bathing scene… but I don’t want to get killed either. Bisha, I’m leaving the rest to you.
While waiting and drinking a canned coffee, Bisha brought me the basket, so I headed back to Home to do the laundry.
I’m not the type to get excited over underwear, so I tossed everything into the washing machine and hit the switch. While it ran, I loaded rounds into P90 magazines.
The wash finished in under thirty minutes. I moved everything to the dryer, and once that was done, I put it back in the basket and returned.
「That was a great bath」
A slender beauty, wrapped in a bath towel, drinking a canned beer. Just like before, she’s way too defenseless in front of men. Well, I can only see a future where I get counter-killed, so there’s no arousal either way.
「Good. Bisha, if there’s still hot water, go take a bath too. I’ll check the cave」
Grabbing the Scorpion, I headed for the crevice where I’d thrown the tear gas grenades yesterday.
「Whew… I’m tired」
I haven’t slept much, so my body feels heavy. I only climbed the mountain a bit, but the fatigue is unreal.
I downed a three-thousand-yen energy drink and took a breather. Even with magic restoring stamina, the consumption still feels intense. In the end, eating properly and sleeping really are the best ways to recover.
「…Still, some of them are alive…」
About thirty left, maybe? The survivors feel stubborn, like the tough ones are hanging on.
I can’t get detailed information from their presence alone, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Like letting them escape would be a serious mistake.
「When it comes to goblins, my instincts sharpen up. Can’t just ignore that」
This is something I need to finish, even if it blows past profitability. Seriously, what’s inside that cave?
I brought a gas canister from Home, poured eighteen liters of kerosene through the crevice, and lit it.
Eighteen liters probably won’t do much, but this is just a test. I’ve never poured kerosene into a cave before. What’s going to happen?
「…Huh? Isn’t the smoke way stronger than it should be?」
Was there something flammable inside? The black smoke pouring out of the crevice is insane.
When I moved to the crevice wide enough for a single goblin to pass through, I sensed goblins trying to escape, heading straight for me.
They should’ve been blocked by the goblins I killed yesterday, but panicking goblins don’t think that far. They were screeching and flailing. Really energetic creatures.
Smoke was coming out on my side too, so I just shoved the Scorpion into the crevice and fired in full-auto. Die screaming.
「Huh? What’s this? About twenty of them are heading this way?」
And fast. Way too fast. A pack of Maanu?!
I immediately ran downhill toward the Pioneer.
「Bisha! Mishinie! A goblin group is coming! Prepare for combat!」
I grabbed the MINIMI from the trailer and sprinted toward the front, where the goblins were approaching.
