When I woke up, it was already past noon.
「…I slept hard…」
As I lay spacing out on the mattress, Miriel came in from the entrance. Walking on two legs.
No, she hadn’t evolved from four-legged to two-legged. Yesterday, her legs only reached her shins.
「…Miriel, what happened…?」
「I used Maanu magic stones to restore my legs」
Ah right. We took magic stones from about twenty Maanu. With that many, restoring a leg or two should be possible. Probably. I don’t really know.
「I see. That’s good」
「Yes. But I still can’t walk very well yet」
I guess magic isn’t that perfect either.
「If you can walk with practice, then there’s no need to rush. You’re still young, Miriel」
Losing her legs as a teenager was tragic, but her life is only just beginning. She has time. There’s no need to push herself.
「When we get back from Rydand, shall we celebrate? I promised Bisha too」
I’ll prepare lots of high-grade yakiniku and cakes from a top-class hotel again.
「Yes. I’m looking forward to it」
「But before that, let’s fill our stomachs. I haven’t eaten since yesterday, and I’m starving」
Even though I just woke up, I really want meat. For lunch, let’s do a large katsudon with pork miso soup.
As I was agonizing over which place to order katsudon from on the tablet, Ladarion came in.
「Mornin’. How’s it outside?」
「Gramps is in the sauna. Bisha and Mebi are watching DVDs」
They can enjoy DVDs even though they don’t understand the language? Well, Ladarion did enjoy slapstick cartoons with cats and mice, and Anpanman too.
「Is katsudon fine for lunch?」
「Yeah. Those two said they’ll eat on their own」
Then three servings will do. I’ll buy ten bowls for now, and if it’s not enough, I can always buy more.
The three of us ate lunch, took a short break to let it settle, then I allowed myself a shower and one can of beer. Ahh, so good.
I sat down in a floor chair, picked up the tablet, and decided to draw a lottery ticket.
On the tablet’s home screen was something like an app labeled “Goddess Lottery”. When I tapped it, the dumb goddess’s default illustration appeared along with a gashapon machine.
「You really put in a lot of pointless effort」
If you’re going to use power on something, funnel it back to me instead.
When I tapped the gashapon, the dumb goddess started dancing, then made me watch a pointless five-second animation before turning the handle. No skip? …Oh, there is one.
「It’s Heat Sword!」
A treasure chest appeared in midair. When I touched it, it glowed, and out came a Heat Sword in its sheath.
It was a double-edged sword with a blade about sixty centimeters long. Apparently, the blade could reach up to two thousand degrees. Though at maximum output, it only lasts ten minutes.
「Just give me a Force-type sword already」
Even if it’s two thousand degrees, it’s not like it’ll slice through everything effortlessly. At that point, a stun gun would be more practical.
「Still, why does it run on dry batteries?」
What kind of technology lets three D-size batteries produce two thousand degrees? What kind of scientific civilization is that? I’m more curious about that than how to use it.
Well, there’s no way to understand the thoughts of a dumb goddess. I’ll just accept it and move on.
I tapped for the second draw. Skip, skip.
「It’s a recovery potion!」
A duplicate?! And duplicates are allowed?! Then don’t call it a lottery, call it gacha already! Seriously!
「Well, I guess you can never have too many recovery potions」
They work on illnesses as well as injuries. And I wanted Ladarion to take one anyway, so this works out.
I tapped for the third draw. Same process.
「It’s a Search Eye!」
A sphere about the size of a golf ball appeared, along with a control terminal about the size of a handheld game console, and a charger.
「Is this like a drone?」
This is a win. Five hours to charge, but only thirty minutes of operation!
I tapped for the fourth draw.
「It’s a fifty-percent-off sticker!」
I still haven’t even used up the seventy-percent-off sticker yet. Or was it a seventy-percent-off seal?
「Huh? You can use this for room expansions too? You should’ve told me that last time! I got ripped off」
Seriously, what a dumb goddess. She’s way too sloppy!
I tapped the final one.
「It’s an Aport Watch!」
Another from the Aport series? Well, it seems you can summon anything from Home with this.
「Well, I guess these are decent enough prizes」
Since I’ll probably be calling magazines most often, should I wear it on my right wrist? I’ll need to check that later.
「It’s a watch, so it shows the time too. Looks like it’s got other functions as well」
I’ll look into those later. I’ll practice with the Heat Sword and the Search Eye once we’re back. For now, I should go tell Dyne-san that I’m back. I want to stop by Mished-san’s tavern too.
「Miriel, now that tablets can be used between exterminators, you can go ahead and buy whatever you need from now on」
Ladarion showed zero interest in the tablet, but Miriel was fascinated, often peeking at it from beside me. She should be able to use it just fine without any instruction now.
「Is that really okay?」
「Yeah, it’s fine」
Unlike Ladarion, she has age-appropriate modesty and a good head on her shoulders. She won’t waste money. Besides, buying things like underwear and daily necessities for her would be awkward. If Miriel buys them herself, that takes a load off me mentally.
I handed the tablet to Miriel and started getting ready to head out.
