V6 Chapter 02 – You Are the Fourth One

「Pa○rash… Hehe… I feel so sleepy… Ahaha… I’m going to sleep!」

When I woke up with a start, the room was bright as usual.

I’ve been thinking about this recently. Doesn’t the light in this bedroom only go out during the day? Who is the noble that keeps it blazing brightly every night… Ah, right. I am the head of the Draguknight family, a greater noble.

「So, did you memorize it?」

「…It’s impossible. What is this torture?」

「It is the magic language you wanted to learn.」

The reply came in an exasperated tone.

Sitting on a chair placed in the corner of the bedroom with a book in hand, my proud wife looked at me.

Usually, she is a beauty with an overall white impression, but now she was red. But she was undoubtedly beautiful. Although she was usually a gentle wife.

「Hurry up and memorize it. Even a dog would memorize a bit more.」

「Kuuu~!」

The cold words spat out with a chilly gaze were because she was not her usual self.

She… Islerose-sensei, one of the many companions residing within Noie, had come out today to teach me magic.

「How does reading this text become magic language? I don’t understand the meaning at all.」

「…Truly incompetent. You don’t need to think about such things. Magic is essentially an act of embodying mysteries, so it is impossible to solve it by trying to decipher those mysteries.」

An extremely cold gaze looked at me.

It’s strange… even though her body was in an erotic state wrapped only in sheets, the eroticism was blown away by just a single glance.

「If you have time to look at my chest, memorize the chant words.」

「…I seek a break!」

「Then I want a cold drink.」

I was being ordered by her chin.

Reluctantly getting off the bed, I opened the iron box placed nearby. Cold air came from inside, and I took out a large wooden glass-like pitcher filled with well-chilled black tea.

「Here you go.」

「Hmm.」

As if the conversation had never happened, her gaze returned to the book.

Recently, it seemed she was ordering maids with memos to buy up books related to magic. Thanks to that, a bookshelf was placed in the bedroom, and lined upon it were quite expensive specialized texts.

「Why are books related to magic so expensive?」

「…Originally, magic is knowledge that one wishes to keep secret. Therefore, struggling mages reluctantly turn them into books and sell them.」

「Thank you for such a blunt explanation.」

Hurriedly escaping from her side, I returned to the bed and picked up the book again.

I was looking at the book sensei had said, 『The very basics of magic. You only begin studying after memorizing this』… but my honest impression was that it was filled with endless chants or prayers.

「Don’t just look at it, speak it.」

「Yes. 『The fierce one. The fierce one. The fiercely burning one…』」

I continued reading as if reciting a book in school.

Apparently, if a person with magical power could read this text correctly and accurately, it would naturally be pronounced as magic language from their mouth, allowing them to use magic. Therefore, my current study consisted of endless recitation.

「Sensei?」

「You get bored quickly.」

「I won’t deny that, but if I can say this properly, it becomes magic language, right?」

「That is correct.」

「Then what is written in the spell formulas?」

「Magic language.」

I heard an exasperated sigh. That answer was my greatest enemy in troubling me.

She said that if I pronounced it correctly, it would become magic language, but what kind of mechanism allowed magic language to be written? Then where did that written magic language come from?

When I asked with harmless words, a grand sigh came in return.

「You are the fourth person to ask such a stupid question…」

「Yay! There are three more companions in stupidity!」

Receiving a scornful gaze from the person I loved caused considerable damage to my heart. In return, my spine tingled, and I felt like I was awakening to a strange hobby.

「So, what answer did you give those three people?」

「…If you say it, you can naturally chant magic language. In other words, it means that if you write it, you can naturally write magic language.」

「Huh?」

Since she was wrapped only in sheets, when she crossed her legs again, it was dangerously close to the limit. Various things were truly dangerous. To me, it was nothing but a feast for the eyes.

「Where are you looking?」

「…My apologies.」

Terrified by the direct hit of her absolute zero gaze, I honestly apologized.

「If you understand proper knowledge, the origin of magic, its composition and mechanisms, and carve it with the correct words, a mage’s hand will automatically write magic language. But people who can create new magic are only a handful once every hundred years. Even those currently carving plates can do so because they know the 『words that should be written』, like in the book you have. If they didn’t know them, they couldn’t write them.」

「Heh~」

I somehow understood. In that case… I naturally looked at the homemade refrigerator.

Inside, the plate written and sent back by the Republic’s witch was operating.

「Actually, is the Republic’s witch, who looked at sensei’s plate and carved it to send back, amazing?」

「…She still has a long way to go.」

To me, she seemed amazing, but sensei gave her usual harsh evaluation.

「As I said earlier, if one has a certain amount of knowledge, they can roughly understand what is written just by looking at the magic language carved on a plate.」

「So the witch understood it, right?」

「If she truly 『understood』, the carving wouldn’t be shallow or sloppy. She merely managed to mimic the same text. Even Glodia could do that much.」

「Heh~」

As I gave perfunctory responses, her chilly gaze fell upon me again.

「Your reading isn’t progressing. Also, memorize it as if your life depends on it.」

「…What if I can’t?」

「Let’s see.」

Rarely chuckling, she smiled at me.

「Shall I walk to the castle in this attire?」

「I’ll show you my true seriousness~!」

Noie’s erotic appearance belongs only to me!
