Chapter 9 – The Town of Driessen

I had already finished everything I could do in the morning.

So, in the afternoon, I planned to use the meager funds I was given when I left home to buy various things.

For example, goats and chickens would be nice.

Cows and pigs are difficult to keep here due to the limited space, but animals of that size would be no problem. In fact, I might even be able to build a chicken coop.

I was also interested in the town itself.

On the way here, I was so focused on the idea of “opening a farm in the underground lake” that I didn’t have the chance to enjoy the scenery of the towns we passed through. Now that I have a general idea of things, I can finally take a closer look.

In addition, I wanted to know the business conditions of the nearest town.

If things go well, I might be able to sell my products there.

Vegetables that are rich in magic power, which means they are also excellent for recovering magic power, as well as materials that improve the accuracy of weapons and armor – both of these should sell for a good price.

I also thought I would have lunch there, but… what about Martina? She’s been hanging around here quite a bit. She’s even having fun playing with the Woodmen right now.

「Ah… Martina?」

「Yes? What is it?」

She’s still energetic as ever… but seems to have completely forgotten her original purpose.

「I’m going to town.」

「To town?」

「Yeah. Apparently, it’s the biggest town closer than Ream–“

「In that case, there’s a town called Driessen to the west.」

「Driessen, huh?」

I think I heard about that in the game too.

「Alright, let’s have lunch and do some shopping there.」

「Lunch…?」

The moment I mentioned that word, Martina’s stomach made a loud 「Kwuu~」 sound.

「「………..」」

Poor girl, she must be embarrassed to have her stomach growl in front of me. Her face is flushed red, and her eyes are darting around.

「… Want to come with me?」

「Eh?」

「The vegetables aren’t ready yet, and the Woodmen don’t need food as long as they have holy water. So, I have to eat alone… but that would be boring.」

「Bale-dono… Understood. Let’s go to town. I’ll show you around.」

「Alright. I’ll be counting on you.」

Martina would know more about the town than I would, so I decided to ask her for help.

After entrusting the Woodmen with guarding the house, Martina and I returned through the secret route and emerged outside the dungeon. After walking for about ten minutes, we reached the nearest town, Driessen.

The town was peaceful in the afternoon.

We bought some food from the stalls lining the central street of the town and sat down on a bench near a large fountain to eat.

According to Martina, this town is located exactly halfway between the two large cities to the east and west, making it a stopover point for merchants. As a result, there are many inns and restaurants, and the morning market is also very lively.

This seems to be the same world as in the game “Fantasy Farm Story”.

On closer inspection, I recognize the surrounding landscape.

A canal that divides the town in two.

Several windmills visible in the distance.

An overall pastoral atmosphere.

……ahhhh.

It would be nice to just sit on a bench and watch the scenery go by. That would be a good way to spend a day.

While I was thinking about that, we finished eating and went back to the central street.

Then, at Martina’s suggestion, we visited an item shop – it was a very large store.

「This is the Rymal Company that I told you about.」

「This is…」

Rymal Company.

I recognized the name.

In the world of “Fantasy Farm Story”, it is famous for being a human rights character.

If you can sign an exclusive contract with them to buy and sell crops, you will never have to worry about money again. In fact, I used it a lot when I was playing the game.

…Speaking of which, Gregory Rymal, the head of the company and the “Sage Merchant”, doesn’t have a character image in the main game. The player mainly negotiates with the messengers sent by the company.

I wonder what kind of person he is.

I’m curious… Since we’re going to the company’s store to buy items, it would be better to say hello in anticipation of future activities.

I took a deep breath to calm my nerves before opening the door and entering the store.

The store was spacious, with both regular customers and people who looked like adventurers.

「…..It doesn’t look like Gregory-san, the head of the company, is here.」

「I think he’s in the back of the store.」

That makes sense.

The head of a major trading company that is ranked among the top three on the continent would be too busy to show his face at the front of the store. In the first place, I’m not someone with any achievements who he would want to meet… Hmm, maybe it was too early.

When I was about to give up,

「Ah, there comes Gregory-dono.」

What a stroke of luck.

I turned around with the thought that I wanted to talk to him even for a little bit… but that thought disappeared the moment I saw Gregory-san.

“…After walking for about ten minutes…”

It is a normal agricultural area, if there is a 10 minute walk it means that the dungeon gate is visible from the village or even already surrounded by agricultural crops.
