Chapter 20 – Take Us Skiing
「How does it look? Pretty neat, right??」
Sistina, dressed in her maid uniform, stands proudly in my room with a vacuum cleaner in hand.
After the ordeal at the Vatican, she had been weakened, but now she has recovered enough to serve as a maid in the Shiratori household.
Her heart seems to have grown accustomed to my magic power, and replenishing her energy every three days poses no problem.
While caution is necessary, confining her would not be conducive to her well-being.
It’s about time I took her somewhere.
Surely, there are places she’d like to visit.
「Household chores are a piece of cake for you.」
「Certainly!」
Her demeanor, which had seemed apologetic earlier, now radiates with a smile—a significant improvement.
「Shall we begin your training? Oneesan wants to become stronger.」
Although she has lost her memories related to the Variants, I’ve given her a basic explanation.
After all, she’s closely connected to me and Yui, and she’s in an unfamiliar land all alone.
Rather than risking unnecessary danger by keeping secrets, it’s better to be honest to some extent.
Besides, she needs to understand why she receives magical energy from me.
「You won’t undergo training. For an ordinary human, facing the Variants is difficult.」
「Eh? But I want to be useful!」
「We’ll focus on evasion training for now. That should suffice, right?」
「Hmm… Understood. I’m sure my incredible talents will blossom soon, and we’ll fight together!」
Despite her lack of memories, she was once the Vatican’s mightiest warrior.
While I won’t rule out the possibility, I’d prefer to let her lead a peaceful life without such talents.
She’s suffered enough.
It wouldn’t be called a luxury.
「Training is important, but wouldn’t you like to have some fun or go sightseeing? After all, you’ve come to Japan, and there are plenty of tourist spots.」
「Hmm… Well then… I want to go skiing.」
「Skiing? You mean that sport where you ride on boards down snowy mountains?」
「Exactly! I saw it in a TV commercial and wanted to try it.」
Despite the waning trend, skiing remained a major winter sport.
Snowboarding had gained popularity, but skiing still received significant media exposure compared to the future.
The recent global sports event held in Nagano this winter had also sparked some excitement.
But skiing, huh?
All I remember is reluctantly accompanying my overly enthusiastic bubble-era boss, who insisted on showing off.
Of course, that boss ended up with a broken leg.
At the time, we all thought, “Serves you right!”
「Taking you to a cold place worries me a bit, but there should be hot springs nearby. If your body feels strained, just think of it as a therapeutic soak.」
Ski resorts were naturally located in the mountains, often paired with hot spring inns.
「Hot springs! Sounds great!」
If you’re pleased, then all the better.
「I want to go too!」
Suddenly, Yui bursts into the room, flinging the door wide open.
「Eavesdropping isn’t admirable, you know.」
「I just happened to overhear while pressing my ear against the door.」
Just happened to, huh?
「Of course, if we’re going, we’ll all go together.」
「Yay! Then we need to get everyone’s gear ready.」
「Rentals should suffice.」
I doubt we’ll use them repeatedly.
「Times like these require spending money wisely. It’s a duty of the wealthy. Besides, if we no longer need something, we can always donate it.」
The Shiratori family certainly has a unique perspective.
It’s a way of thinking I lack.
