Chapter 71 – Another Meaning of “P”

Saturday had arrived.

In front of me were a bunch of opened D-cans.

Let me explain all of them.

Eh? You want me to skip the junk items and just report the important ones?

There’s no skip function in the real world, you know.

You might be wondering why I’m muttering to myself like this, but after the struggle of opening all these, I’ve ended up in a weird state of mind.

I picked the ones that seemed easier to open, but 100 cans is still a lot.

In the end, I only managed to open about half of them.

So, let me announce the list of opened items.

First, the low-value ones:

A kitchen timer, a big spring toy you can play with on stairs, a bundle of copper coins, a kendama, a traffic safety charm, a mini keychain book of 100 riddles, luxury pet food (already eaten by Kuro and Shiro), marbles, canned tomatoes (already gifted to Mom), green socks, a postcard with Danpon’s picture, a wooden dagger, a sports drink, a world map, a beret, a headband, a red feather, a white leather notebook, a lacquered bowl, gloves, a glass goldfish, some kind of currency (from where?), reading glasses, a lucky cat figurine, straw sandals, sunflower seeds, bandages, a round stone, a cactus in a pot, and a Danpon plushie.

Most of this stuff looks like it could be bought at a 100-yen shop.

I thought the round stone might be a special item, but no, it was literally just a stone.

However, the white leather notebook is a bit interesting. When I opened it, I found it’s actually a planner—with this year’s calendar. Does that mean the contents of D-cans get updated regularly? If I’d opened it next year, would it have had next year’s calendar?

Well, I’m curious, but Danpon probably won’t tell me, so I’ll figure it out eventually.

Next, let’s move on to the somewhat valuable items:

A silver ingot, a gold pocket watch, a platinum ring, a handkerchief made from magic silk, a yellow magic stone, an earth stone, and a nobori eel.

There weren’t many, but these are pretty good.

The earth stone can be used to give equipment an earth attribute.

Mizuno-san will probably make use of it eventually.

The nobori eel apparently gives you experience points when you eat it.

Now, for the items with special effects. I’ll explain each one in detail:

【Magic Ice Bag: A bag that creates ice when you insert a magic stone. A black magic stone makes about 3 kilograms of ice. 】

【Magic Microwave: A microwave powered by magic stones. 】

【Thunder Gauntlet: A gauntlet that electrifies anyone you punch. 】

【Master’s Fishing Rod: A rod that significantly improves your catch rate. 】

【Bonding Brooches (Set of 4): These brooches let you roughly know the location of your comrades who are wearing them. 】

【Magic Flask (Curry): A flask that dispenses delicious curry when you insert a magic stone. One black magic stone gives about 1 liter of curry. 】

For the last one, I just have to say—hold up.

I know some people say curry is a drink, but it’s not supposed to come out of a flask!

That’s going to be a nightmare to clean.

Finally, we get to the skills. And yes, I’ve already learned all of them. Let’s go over the ones I’ve acquired:

【Basic Spear Technique: Allows the use of basic spear skills. 】

【Reflect Magic: Reflects magic attacks back at the caster. 】

【Substitute: Takes damage on behalf of a comrade. 】

【Treasure Up: Increases the chance of finding valuable items in treasure chests. 】

【Fairy Ring: ??? 】

I’m not really sure about the last one.

I think it’s a unique skill, but I have no idea what it actually does.

Up until now, all the skills I’ve acquired had pretty straightforward names, like ‘some kind of magic’ or ‘detailed appraisal’ or ‘bunshin’.

You’d know exactly what they did just by hearing the name.

But this one—”Fairy Ring”—doesn’t make any sense.

When I tried searching for it online, all I got were results about fairy rings—some kind of mushroom. Could it be related to that?

Yelling the skill name doesn’t activate it.

I’ve tried using it, but nothing happens.

I don’t even know if it’s an active skill or a passive one.

It’s a total mystery.

There were two other things, though—super rare items.

The first one was a Hero’s Elixir.

I would’ve preferred a Saint’s Elixir, but I won’t complain.

And the other was Golden Bamboo.

Golden Bamboo makes me think of Shingen’s bamboo sword, but this isn’t a weapon—it’s a special item.

【Golden Bamboo: When you break it while thinking of a skill, it increases the rank of that skill by one level. 】

A single piece of golden, glowing bamboo.

Raising a skill rank isn’t the same as improving its proficiency.

It’s more like the skill itself evolves.

For example, turning Fire Magic into Flame Magic.

Apparently, this item has appeared on the market a few times in the past, and it fetched a price comparable to the Hero’s Elixir.

I was torn.

If I wanted to boost our team’s overall strength, I could level up Ayame’s Wind Magic, which would make her incredibly powerful.

If I wanted to focus on safety, I could enhance Milk’s Drug Magic, allowing her to create amazing potions.

But I was thinking of using it to level up something else.

And that was…

【PD Generation】

【Detailed Appraisal】

One of those two.

The reason I’ve gotten as strong as I am now is largely thanks to these two skills.

If I could somehow enhance these unique skills even further, I wonder what kind of evolution they would undergo?

For example, if I enhanced PD Generation, maybe my companions would be able to enter. If I enhanced Detailed Appraisal, I might be able to appraise not just dungeon items, but also the monsters and skills within the dungeon.

I considered waiting until I obtained another skill, but then I worried I might end up never using the bamboo at all.

I even tried asking Danpon what would happen if I enhanced PD Generation, but even after offering him a snack, he wouldn’t tell me. Apparently, that’s breaking the rules.

He did say he’d explain once I actually used the enhancement, so I figured it must be possible.

In the end, I decided to trust myself and go ahead with enhancing PD Generation.

Wishing for the enhancement, I struck the Golden Bamboo with the wooden dagger. It split cleanly, like it embodied the saying ‘breaking through like bamboo’.

And with that, my skill name changed to 【PD Generation II】.

「Danpon, I’ve finished the enhancement. What changes does PD Generation II have?」

「Congratulations on the enhancement! First of all, you can now set warp points inside the dungeon. This allows you to instantly move between floors in increments of five.」

「That’s really helpful. It was a pain to go down to the tenth floor every single time.」

「You can also now increase the monster spawn rate up to ten times.」

「Yeah, I think I’ll leave that one alone for now… It’d be dangerous to raise it any higher.」

「Next, I can now sell various items! You can buy them with D-Coins. The D-Coins you use will count toward your cash-out value and your ranking, so please purchase as much as you like.」

Danpon showed me a catalog.

There weren’t any super rare items like the Hero’s Elixir, but there were healing potions, magic stones, and magical tools like the Magic Water Bottle.

It wasn’t just items for sale either. They offered services, like restoring stamina or repairing broken weapons.

Out of curiosity, I asked how much it would cost to repair my broken Stone-Cutting Sword. The price was 10,000 D-Coins.

At that rate, it would be cheaper to just buy a new Stone-Cutting Sword. However, for weapons like my Futsu-no-mitama that can’t simply be bought, it might be worth using the service.

「No chance of paying for repairs in cash?」

「Unfortunately not. We only accept D-Coins with a smile.」

「Got it. Anything else that changed with the enhancement?」

「Lastly, your partner can now enter the dungeon too.」

「My partner?」

「Yes! The Private Dungeon now has a second meaning—it’s also a ‘Partner Dungeon’.」

Partner?

When I think of my dungeon partner, I picture Kuro, but he’s been able to enter the dungeon from the start, so that can’t be it.

Which means…

「So, does that mean my companions can enter?」

「No, not exactly. Only your spouse can enter.」

「Ah, right. Well, yeah, when you say ‘partner’, that’s what most people would think.」

Okay, got it.

So basically, that last part has nothing to do with me right now.
