Chapter 202 – The Difference in Power

Dirk, wielding his holy sword, had strutted around as if he were some kind of god.

However, his magic power failed to burn the divine roots summoned by the Dragon Tree Sword. Instead, his flames were deflected effortlessly.

「This can’t be… this is impossible!」

Dirk’s frustration boiled over as things refused to go his way.

Ever since he got the holy sword, everything in his life had likely gone smoothly, just as he imagined. No one dared oppose him; everything he wanted was within reach. He believed this was solely because of the sword’s power, but in truth, it was the fear of the Orlando family’s influence that kept everyone in line.

「…………」

I sheathed my sword, knowing there was no point in continuing.

‘Let’s go see Williams-san.’ I told Kiara, turning to leave.

The other students would probably be back from exploring the festival soon, and we were supposed to meet with Slafin-san, the main reason for our visit to the academy.

But Dirk wasn’t done yet.

「Wait! You think you can just walk away!?」

「…………」

I ignored his cheap provocation.

By now, the play had likely already started, and even if Dirk went back, it would be too late. I regretted missing the performance, but if it created a good memory for Jenny and the others, that was enough.

「Dammit…」

Dirk, realizing I wouldn’t stop, slammed his holy sword into the ground. Without magic, it was nothing more than a fancy blade.

Still, the sword itself was genuine; Dirk’s failure wasn’t due to the sword but his inability to wield it to its full potential. If he acknowledged that and dedicated himself to serious training, he might one day surpass the Dragon Tree Sword. But the Dragon Tree Sword has a higher form—the Tree God Sword, which emerged during the battle with the Alraune.

I hadn’t mastered that form yet, and today’s visit to Slafin-san was meant to learn more about it.

Dirk hung his head, no longer trying to stop me. He seemed to be wrestling with his own thoughts, likely realizing he couldn’t move forward without serious self-reflection.

Leaving Dirk behind, Kiara and I headed back to Williams-san.

When we returned to the farm, Williams-san was in conversation with four female students.

It didn’t look like a friendly chat—they seemed tense, almost desperate.

「Ah! You’re back!」

Williams-san hurried over the moment he spotted us. Judging by his expression, something serious had happened.

「Is there a problem?」

「We need your sword’s power!」

「The Dragon Tree Sword?」

I had a feeling that’s what it was about. The girls were staring at me intently as well.

「Could you explain what’s going on?」

「I’ll do it!」

One of the girls raised her hand energetically.

I guess it was time to hear the full story.
