I trained with my sword again the next morning.
Maybe because of the recovery pills I managed fifteen minutes on the first round and finished eight sets before noon. Yesterday I only managed six so there is no doubt I am improving.
If I train again tomorrow, I will grow even more, but if I do not deal with the goblins I cannot eat. I cannot train with food and shelter provided like in a boys’ manga. I can only train after work or on my days off. That is what it means to be a working adult.
「I was wondering about something. Which is your dominant hand, Takato? You shoot with your right but you use your sword with your left. Sometimes you use your right with the sword too. Are you ambidextrous?」
「Well, if you put it that way I guess I am. For everyday things I use my right, but when I need strength I end up using my left」
When I bowl or throw a ball using my left is smoother and stronger. But when I write or use chopsticks I use my right.
That is why I place my machete on my right side so I can draw it with my left. When I do that I move my Glock to my waist or a shoulder holster.
The P90 really helps since I can shoot it from either side. When I get tired shooting right-handed I switch to left-handed.
「Doesn’t that get confusing?」
「Sometimes, but I have done it since I was little so it does not bother me」
The problem is that there are not many guns that work well from either side. I can use a 5.56 mm assault rifle right-handed without a problem, but for something like a 7.62 mm I get better control using my left. But with the MINIMI that fires 5.56 mm I can hold it down better with my left, while with the H sniper rifle I feel I hit better right-handed when it is resting on the ground. I really wish they would develop more guns you can use from either side.
…Well, there were some, but they all had their own flaws…
While we talked, Ladarion showed up with her stomach growling so we decided to take lunch.
After lunch I planned to check on Marg, but before I could Kainzel-san said he wanted to move into the cabin. What happened?
「Well, going out to relieve myself in the middle of the night is a pain. I do not mind if it is cramped so I want to live in the cabin」
「If you are fine with it, I do not mind, but will it not be inconvenient?」
But this place is outside the village. Thinking about safety I still feel my house would be better.
「No, I will modify it myself with the money I earn. After retiring as a soldier, I wanted to build a house like this and live a quiet country life」
So he wants to spend his old age in the countryside. I guess people think about that even in another world.
「I will get meals from you for a while, but once I make a stove I will cook for myself」
「Then let us ask Gorg to build you a house from stone or brick. If you start from zero it will take years」
Building it from scratch would be fun, but Kainzel-san cannot buy things unless he deals with goblins. If he does everything by hand it will take several years.
「That is true. I will ask」
So I asked the housewives who came for the afternoon tea gathering.
We looked at Marg’s slingshot and decided to try it in a real situation, so we all went deeper into the forest and hunted two deer with scales on their backs.
Kainzel-san butchered them on the spot and let Marg, who made the kills, eat first.
「It is delicious!」
I am glad. I do not have much of an appetite so I will pass.
「Marg. Do not go into the forest alone just because you want deer meat. We will take you hunting again on our days off」
「I know. My mom told me to go only as far as the master’s place」
It is good to have a competitive spirit, but understanding people’s warnings is also important. Gorg and Romy’s education and discipline seem to be doing their job.
By the time I returned home it was evening, so I stopped sword training and rested for tomorrow.
Kainzel-san said he wanted to move to the cabin, so I gave him the camping gear we had used and taught him how to use it.
「I will set up this mosquito net」
I attached the hanging mosquito net and lit a mosquito coil, though I had no idea if it worked on insects in this world. I also pushed two solar powered electric bug zappers into the ground.
「You have some incredible things」
「Yes. They are very convenient」
If I stick some solar garden lights into the ground they should work as animal deterrents. If the ones from the hundred-yen shop burn out in fifteen days it is no loss.
「Please come to my place for meals」
It is too much trouble to bring food over.
「Yeah. I understand」
He would have dinner at my place, so the three of us decided on grilled meat tonight.
「This beer is cold and goes well with the meat!」
Right? Grilled meat and beer are the best combination. When I worked at the factory, I could only afford barbecue during bonus season though.
「Starting tomorrow I need you to take care of the goblins」
「Yeah. If I can eat meat and drink beer this good, I will take down as many goblins as you want!」
People work hard when they can eat something tasty. Eat plenty and use it as fuel for tomorrow.
「Takato, that is burning. I will not allow burnt meat!」
Ladarion still did not know the glory of beer, so she was focused entirely on meat. She had become good with chopsticks and turned into a full barbecue magistrate.
「Let me eat a little slower」
The golden ratio is seven parts meat and four parts beer.
「When you eat meat, you must face the meat. Otherwise, it is disrespectful!」

Well, I did buy some good meat, so I will focus on eating.

Kainzel-san could still eat meat even past fifty. I hope my stomach can still handle barbecue when I am over fifty.
While being scolded by Ladarion the barbecue magistrate we enjoyed our grilled meat together.
