「Takato-san, what happened!?」
Miriel had been loading magazines in the entrance when she noticed the wreck I had become. She dragged herself over to me. It seemed smoother surfaces really did make it easier for her to move.
「Kainzel-san just trained me a bit. I’m weak, after all」
While I was wheezing and groaning, Kainzel-san showed no sign of fatigue. He stayed calm the entire time.
I wanted enough stamina and skill to take down ten goblins with ease. Of course, anything above eleven and I would sprint for my life.
「I’m going to take a shower. Once I’m done, let’s have lunch」
Training for about three hours left me drenched in sweat from moving at full force. Before the girls started complaining that I smelled, I headed to the unit bath.
After washing my aching body thoroughly, I walked out and found Miriel waiting in position. Wh… what?
「Please sit there」
Overwhelmed by the pressure she radiated, I sat in seiza in front of her. You’re scary, you know…
She took both my hands and a soft warmth spread through my body. The pain faded away. Her power had definitely grown.
「Are you sure it’s fine for you to use healing magic?」
She didn’t look tired, but stronger healing meant more magic consumption. Or whatever this world called it. Her body still wasn’t fully recovered.
「……I’m fine. I was able to eat a lot and sleep peacefully」
Miriel smiled warmly. After living the way she had, of course she couldn’t have used her strength properly. She was strong just for not retiring from life entirely.
「Thanks. The pain’s gone. I’ll rely on you again」
It saved recovery medicines and the stronger her magic became, the lower my chance of dying from injuries. Please eat plenty and grow well.
「Yes! Leave it to me!」
She was happy to be relied on. The fact that I was simply taking advantage of her made that smile painful to look at.
I bought lunch and the three of us sat together around the table.
After we finished eating, it was time to rest. No, I needed a nap. Even with Miriel’s healing, my stamina hadn’t returned. It even felt like her magic used up some of my body’s energy. I had eaten a second helping at lunch. Her healing magic might actually be a type of restorative magic…
I must have fallen asleep while thinking about it because when I woke up it was already four in the afternoon. I really slept hard.
The central room was empty and when I checked the entrance they were not there either. Did they go outside?
When I peeked out the window, I saw the neighbor ladies having tea. They came here in this rain which is impressive.
I did not have the courage to join their girls’ gathering so I stayed inside. Please enjoy yourselves.
「Ah, the battery for the electric wheelchair finished charging」
I removed the battery from the charger and set it into the wheelchair. I turned on the power and tried operating it.
「This is amazing」
The performance of the Whill surprised me. Is this what modern electric wheelchairs are like? Even someone with legs like me would want to move around with it.
I maneuvered around the entrance in every direction and got a good grasp of how to use the Whill.
「Miriel, which is her dominant hand again?」
The Whill’s controller was on the right side. Still, this wheelchair could switch sides and the seat and armrests could be adjusted in height.
So, I bought some tools and lowered the seat all the way down. With two small platforms she should be able to sit by herself.
At five the two returned. Only a fellow woman could endure that girls’ gathering. Not that I envy them.
「Perfect timing. Miriel. This is the electric wheelchair that will be your legs. I will teach you how to use it so try sitting down」
「A chair?」
「Yes. It is the one you rode coming back from the town of Misrim but adjusted for indoor use. With this you should be able to move around the entrance and go outside to the area around the house」
Maybe because giants walk here the ground was hard and the grass did not grow much. With the Whill’s performance she should be fine.
I placed a two-step platform next to the Whill and had her seat herself.
She had lived with that body for a long time so sitting did not seem too hard for her. If I place a single step near the foot area she might not even need the platform.
「Miriel, which is your dominant hand?」
「My right」
Then I did not need to switch the controller.
I taught her from the power button and how to move using the stick. I had her drive between the shelves.
At first, she panicked and kept bumping into things but after an hour she got used to it and stopped hitting the shelves.
「Keep practicing for a while. Ladarion, stay with her for now. I will prepare dinner」
「Okay」
She sat on the step stool, set out some snacks and watched over Miriel. Yeah. That is not what I meant, Ladarion-san. What I want is for you to stop her or help her when things get dangerous.
Maybe I really do need to teach Ladarion properly. Thinking that, I returned to the central room and prepared dinner.
Tonight’s dinner was from Sai○eria so I could learn what Miriel liked and disliked. Also, Sai○eria is cheap. With ten thousand yen I ended up with an incredible amount of food. Well, for Ladarion it probably counts as a single serving.
「Hey. Dinner is ready」
When I called them, Ladarion arrived carrying Miriel under her arm. Your handling of Miriel is rough, you know.
I seated her on the floor chair, wiped her hands with a wet tissue and she began to eat from the hamburger steak.
「Miriel. Don’t hold back because of Ladarion. Eat whatever you like. If it’s not enough I’ll buy more」
「W- won’t this cost a lot for food expenses」
「Yes. But I was the one who asked Ladarion to join me without thinking it through. No matter how much it costs, I won’t let Ladarion go hungry」
That is what it means to take responsibility. It is the weight of the mistake I made. I have to accept it and focus on exterminating goblins.
「Well, you’ll both work for what you eat. You’re part of the team」
「Yes. I will exterminate a lot of goblins so I can eat a lot」
Ladarion understood that much. This lifestyle is only possible because we are exterminating goblins.
「Miriel, you will work too so eat well. I am counting on your healing magic」
I moved the rib steak in front of Miriel. She is young so she should eat meat. Meat is the energy that keeps you alive tomorrow.
「I will eat a lot so I can live tomorrow」
I added another rib steak for myself and ate until I was full.
