After finishing the meal, we moved to another room.
While thinking, ‘So they even built a room like this’, I served the Guild Master some tea and cake, and coffee for the lord’s proxy.
「I will make you a contractor right away」
After all the eating, drinking, and long conversations, I figured he would not want to drag things out, so I got straight to the point.
「That was quick」
「You are a contractor, after all」
「Is that different from being an exterminator?」
「Yes. If you become an exterminator, it is basically a life where all you do is kill goblins forever」
Of course, the useless goddess never said anything like that, but considering the future, it was better to establish that as the setting.
「And this is just between us, but items purchased by contractors disappear after fifteen days」
「Was it not ten days?」
「That was a lie to keep contractors from being exploited. If it were only ten days, the range of things they could choose would be much more limited」
When you think of items from the other world as rentals, there is a big difference between ten days and fifteen.
If expensive items could only be used for ten days, contractors would not make unreasonable requests. Likewise, people trying to exploit contractors would think twice.
And even if some still tried, I would not mind. More contractors meant more profit, and fewer goblins.
This rule only applies while the number of contractors is still small. It is simply a lie to prevent them from being taken advantage of.
Of course, there are other intentions behind it, but that is the main reason. I cannot afford to have contractors used up and discarded.
「It is already late today, so we will kill the goblins tomorrow」
No one would be able to think properly with a drunken head anyway.

Hot springs exist here too, huh. That actually makes me want to visit.

I called Miriel and left the lord’s proxy in her care.
「How is the goblin hunting in the mountains coming along?」

He was right. Autumn was already halfway over. Climate-wise, it felt like mid-October. If we had to build roads and set up simple forts, it would probably be winter by the time everything was ready.
「Are you busy in the winter?」
「Yes. We are busy until around the middle of winter, but after that, we have time until spring」
「You too, Guild Master?」
「No. I will hand over the position of Guild Master before winter. The role and name have not been decided yet, but I will become the head of a new department」
That department would definitely have something to do with me.
「I am surprised people allowed that」
Whoever takes over after him is going to have it rough.

「You obtained permission from the Adventurers’ Guild headquarters?」
I did not really know how the Adventurers’ Guild was structured, but it was an organization created by that useless goddess. It had to be a massive organization spread across multiple countries.

That sounded suspiciously like something the useless goddess would do. Even those laws were probably decided on her whims.
「The next Adventurers’ Guild Master is a former Gold Seal holder. He was injured and can no longer stand on the front lines, but he once commanded dozens of people. He will have no problems as Guild Master. The plan is to hand everything over to him completely by spring」
I am jealous of having such a deep pool of capable people. I would like to work under a boss like that too.

Well, in the Guild Master’s case, that money has to support two people. If they keep pouring it into alcohol and sweets, it will be gone in less than two months.

In the mountains, no one could stand against Ladarion as a giant. Even ogu go down with a single shotgun blast. Well, maybe three shots. Their flesh was pretty thick.
Besides, Mishinie would probably come along too, so there was nothing to fear. It would not be an exaggeration to say my life was secured.
「I will leave Miriel behind, so if anything happens, tell her. We will return quickly」
I felt bad for her, but someone had to stay behind. If no one was at Home, we would be in trouble if something happened.
