Chapter 215 – Director Sierra

By evening, Kainzel-san and the others had returned.

「Let’s rest well today and have a meeting tomorrow.」

All four of them looked exhausted, so I decided everything could wait until tomorrow.

The bath in the mansion had finally been completed, so I sent the girls’ group in first, while Kainzel-san headed to the sauna.

Once everyone came out, it was time for dinner. As people gathered in the dining hall, they began eating the Misuzu dishes prepared by the cook couple.

The dining hall could seat about twenty people, so we also let the boys and girls and the Adventurers’ Guild staff use it.

For now, this loose arrangement is fine. The Goblin Extermination Guild is still immature as an organization and operates more on a personal level. We are running it with the money we earned ourselves. Besides, we are receiving favorable tax treatment. The finer details can wait until we grow bigger.

After dinner, I left the mansion in Sierra’s care and returned home. Miriel kept nudging me to get proper rest.

I did not think it was that serious, but after getting permission to drink Yoichi-san, a Japanese whisky, straight, I went to sleep.

Drinking good liquor and falling asleep without worries makes for an incredibly pleasant morning. Next time, I will work hard so I can drink Hibiki-san instead.

「…Seven o’clock…」

I went to bed before nine, yet I slept for ten hours. No wonder I woke up feeling so refreshed.

Ladarion and Miriel must have already gotten up. They were not in the central room, and food had been laid out on the table.

「I might end up getting spoiled like this.」

Ever since she learned how to use the tablet, Miriel has been preparing the meals. If I let myself rely on her here, I will only become a useless adult. Or rather, I am afraid I will end up completely under Miriel’s thumb.

「Anyone who survives after losing both legs is strong.」

If it were me, I would have fallen into despair and left this world.

After eating the prepared meal and taking a short rest, I checked the entrance area.

Empty magazines for the P90 and several assault rifle magazines were inside a container box, telling the story of how fierce the battle against the Yamaguro had been.

「I forgot to retrieve Lynx’s magazine.」

Anti-materiel rifles are not just expensive in terms of ammunition. The magazines cost a lot too. Honestly, that fight brought nothing but losses.

The G3 magazines were also inside the container box. It seemed the Barrett alone had not been enough to finish it.

「The reward money is down to 4.3 million yen…」

I thought we had earned quite a lot since returning from Rydand, but skimming a share from the contractors is barely enough to cover maintenance and operating costs.

Even if a contractor exterminates a hundred goblins, we only receive 150,000 yen. That is barely enough to buy a single assault rifle.

If we, the exterminators, do not earn money ourselves, we cannot build any savings. We will probably have to limit the numbers for the large-scale goblin extermination operation.

「I should buy more MINIMI ammunition too.」

When things get overwhelming, the MINIMI, with its 200-round capacity, is extremely useful. Actually, I have a lot of guns that need maintenance. Some I have not even touched. After the meeting, I should handle the ones I have not used while doing maintenance.

It is great that Miriel can move again, but we still need someone to stay at Home. Is there not anyone who likes staying shut indoors somewhere?

After equipping my gear around the waist, I picked up five MINIMIs, handled some of the guns I probably would not use, then stepped outside.

The room connected to Home was one of the mansion’s rooms. It functioned as a warehouse to temporarily store items taken out from home.

「We are quietly using up a lot of seasonings too.」

With so many people, heavy consumption is unavoidable. But in this frontier region, even salt is expensive. I heard that 100 grams of sugar costs one silver coin. Considering the cost, it is cheaper to buy them through the tablet.

Was founding the guild a good decision or not? Watching the money decrease makes me unsure.

Leaving the warehouse, I headed first to the first-floor workspace.

Well, calling it a workspace is generous. It is not even properly set up yet, so there is no real work to do. Until then, the place where the staff gather has been designated as the meeting room.

「Master. Good morning.」

Sierra and the staff were in the meeting room, writing something on parchment purchased from Dyne-san.

「Ah, good morning. That is quite a stack of parchment.」

「Paper is expensive. We have no choice but to use parchment or wooden boards.」

So paper does exist, at least. And yet they manage to run an organization in a world like this. It is hard to imagine for someone from the modern era, used to writing daily reports and emails on a computer.

「Can we hire retired adventurers? I want people to gather information on goblins within the territory and collect information from outside as well.」

「That will require additional funds. Are you sure we can afford it?」

「I will just have to work harder and earn more.」

That is all I can really say. This business does not allow for careful planning in the first place. If someone thinks it does, they are welcome to come join our guild and show me how.

「Understood. I have a few people in mind. I will speak to them.」

「I am counting on you. Oh, and about the goblin we captured. I want you to kill it first, Sierra.」

As the director, she will likely need to purchase various things for the mansion. It would be best if she were the one holding the most money.

「Understood. However, I have never held a sword before. May I use a gun instead?」

You have never held a sword, yet you jump straight to a gun? Well, I did start with guns myself.

「Then let’s have you practice first. If you handle it incorrectly, it can be dangerous.」

Come to think of it, I never got the Glock back from the boy I lent it to. Perfect timing. I will have the boys and girls practice with firearms as well. Those five show promise. I will train them properly and raise them into fine goblin contractors.
