Chapter 100.1 – In the Wind, the Twins Look Down on the City

It’s a cold, cold winter morning. So cold that my face is kind of crispy.

The weak sunlight shining through the clear air illuminates a big building painted in pure white.

From the top of the roof, the long support columns, and a sculpture of an eight legged bicorn with twin babies on its back that are looking down the road.

I sipped the coffee I’m holding slowly, looking up at it with million thoughts in my mind.

Beautiful.

What a beautiful building.

It was so special to me that I could stand here in the cold and never get tired of looking at it.

This winter was the winter in which all the things that I and my subordinates had done up to this point had come to fruition.

The clock tower class beast type magic construct was completed, the new headquarters building on Schenker Street was completed, and even rice can now be harvested in Torquiva although that happened in fall.

Thank goodness, we completed much.

The most exciting for me of all of those was the completion of this pure white building, which was completed a short time after the new year.

The building, which is a perfect square if you look at it as a whole, shines brightly in winter with its pure white painted walls and pillars that reflect sunlight……well, it kinda looks dull.

Boasting five stories above the ground, it had a big entrance with an elegant archway that could fit ten adults walking side by side, and windows encircling the building above it.

Carvings are not only applied on the roof but also everywhere throughout the building. They are so elaborate that they seem to be ready to move at any moment, creating an ingenious architectural structure that keeps the viewers’ eyes on the building.

Yeah, this is it.

My longing, my dream, my culmination.

A theater of my own, a theater I have always wanted.

The baseball field was built on the site that was acquired for the theater so it was smaller than the original planned, but it was extended to accommodate a bigger number of audience.

The parking lot, which was created by moving the shiitake mushroom farm underground, is also a problem but since the theater was built for commoners, it is unlikely that many horse drawn carriages of nobles will come here.

There is no end to your ideal.

However, for now, I’m just happy to see it completed.

Inside the castle of my dreams, the staff were making final adjustments before the opening of business which was only three days away.

「Check the lighting again! If it falls, it won’t be just a simple accident! The cleaning crews must not leave a single speck of dust on the carpet in the morning of the day after tomorrow! The first day is the most important! Even madam will be there!」

The rabbitkin Moimo, the theater’s manager, shouted, and the staff, receiving her instructions, ran like arrows.

I was a little worried because she’s always been someone with great sense of humor but seeing her with strong spirit, it looks like she’s doing a fine job as a manager.

「Master, you’re here. Sorry, I’m just a bit flabbergasted……」

「No, it’s fine. I’m just here to check how’s the magic construct is doing so just do your job and don’t mind me.」

「Thank you very much. Ah, right, here are the tickets you asked for. Sorry for giving it to you late.」

「No, it’s me who asked you even though I know you’re busy.」

Moimo handed me an envelope containing tickets, bowed deeply, and disappeared after the staff who were running around.

「Everyone seems to be awfully busy.」

「Of course, they are. It will open soon.」

The little dogkin, Rafi, my escort and companion for the day, says that while following me behind.

Inside the theater was like the eve of a festival. There are sounds of hammering coming from somewhere and women with paint on their faces are smiling and pointing at each other as they run by.

We had a pre-opening performance with the Magical Schenker Group last week but given what’s happening……they found out that a lot more tweaking is necessary.

We went to the back of the large atrium hall, located as soon as you entered, and slowly climbed up to the second floor using the magic construct powered automatic staircase(escalator) just past the gate where the ticket collector was scheduled to stand.

「This is really amazing. You’ll be carried up without the need of climbing up yourself.」

「I know right」

「What will happen if you go against the flow?」

「You’ll get twice as tired.」

Little Rafi’s eyes are sparkling with excitement as we use the escalator. This is an important feature for going to and from the five-story theater.

Although only the uphill side was installed with escalators due to high magic crystal consumption, this is a revolutionary alternative.

Compared to the Japan where I came from, the people of this world are overwhelmingly strong on their legs and feet but on the contrary, there are not many tall buildings.

Moreover, this area is a wide plain with no slopes, so people are not used to climbing.

So, if escalators like these exist, it will be an attraction.

And this is also our hospitality.
