Chapter 110.5 – If You Can’t Find a Good Man, Raised One (3)

「So, this is the candy that makes you smarter. Right, it turned out into gum.」

Master said these words while chewing the mind flavored candy in his office at the Magical Schenker Group headquarters as I reported on the candy he was chewing.

「Ga……? What are you talking about?」

「Areh? Ah, right, gum doesn’t exist until now.」

Our master, Sawadi Slayra-sama, to put it bluntly, is a genius.

He is a great mage, a noble, and a great scholar who makes extraordinary things on an extraordinary scale.

Perhaps that’s the reason why he sometimes said words like this that no one understands.

「So, you say you made this thing by kneading wheat?」

「That’s right. I kneaded that sugar with it along with some flavors……」

「I wonder what it was, I thought gums were plastic……I guess I can only ask the alchemist at the academy if he has any good resin materials……」

「Ano, master?」

Master munched on the chewy candy(gum) and swallowed it with a gulp.

「Seele, you have done well. You made something greater than candy.」

「Ah, thank you very much.」

Thank goodness……

I let out a slow breath of relief though my nose.

Master has such a good personality that he is called “Sawadi the Charitable”….

I was even prepared to face some kind of punishment at worst for not fulfilling his orders.

「I’d like to consider some other materials for this gum. If you find a good material again, I can only ask Seele to develop it for me……」

「Of course.」

「Ah, about the chef that I left with Seele.」

Master smiled and took a letter from his desk.

「I got a letter of thanks from Butter-san. He was impressed that our chef could make his chef cook hayashi rice.」

「Is that so?」

I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

I’ve only taught him to the point where he can barely do it but…..

To be honest, I’m amazed that he made it this far in such a short period of time.

I’m glad that Digo was able to save face to his parents.

Now, if he just remembers what I taught him and practices well, maybe his restaurant will be ready in……a year or a year after that…..no, maybe a year after the next……No no……

As I was thinking about that, master continued.

「By the way, Butter-san asked me……if we would be willing to train him until he is satisfied. What do you think, Seele?」

「Eh? Until he is satisfied? Not until the end of spring?」

「Yes」

Well, there are a lot of things I haven’t taught him yet……

Is it okay to go slow now?

「In that case, we’ll treat him as an apprentice and pay him at least the minimum wage so he can get used to normal work. I’m sure the kitchen has its own requirements so I’ll have Seele accept it as far as you are willing.」

「Well, then……」

To be honest,it felt like the load that had been lifted on my shoulder returned……

However, knowing how hard he works, I didn’t feel rejecting.

I had agreed to extend Digo’s training period just as master had asked me to.

「Then, I’ll tell Chicken about the gum and give you some bonus.」

After telling me that in a light tone, I left his office.

I sighed heavily and turned my head down in front of the door. The wind blowing through the corridor caressed my body.

I was somehow lured by the wind and looked at the window……then, I heard a blam sound from outside.

I approached the window and looked down to see Digo, who had fallen on the back porch of the cafeteria, smashing some onions.

「……it looks like you still have a long way to go before you stand on your own.」

Fu, I chuckled.

Leaning against the windowsill, I somehow looked up to the heavens……

The clouds that had been hanging over the sun had just cleared, and the hot sun shone down on my forehead.

I let the late spring breeze blow over me for a while as I racked my brains about how to train my poor apprentice.
